Mark Jenkins

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Mark Jenkins was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Petersen Inc. in 2013 after joining the team in 2006 as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Jenkins has over three decades of manufacturing and management experience. Prior to joining the Petersen Inc. team he spent 23 years in the automotive industry with Autoliv Inc. and Volvo White Truck Corporation. He held several positions while at Autoliv Inc. including Plant Controller, Production Control Manager, Operations Manager, Plant Manager and Director of Finance. Mr. Jenkins was part of a select group of managers that for three years received individual training and coaching from Toyota on the Toyota Production System. This training and lean manufacturing experience was instrumental in leading the plant to receive the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Award. Mr. Jenkins holds a B.A. degree in Accounting from Weber State University and a MBA degree from the University of Phoenix.

Bryan Crowell

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Bryan Crowell joined Petersen Inc. in 2018 with over 25 years of operational management and engineering experience. A Shingo Award winning author of the book “Own the Gap: How to build a daily Kaizen Culture,” Bryan brings a wealth of experience to the Petersen Inc. management team. He received his Master of Business Administration from Utah State University and his Bachelor of Science from Weber State University. He is also an ASQ Certified Quality Manager and specially trained in lean manufacturing and the Toyota Production System by Toyota.

Casey Jones

Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer at Petersen Inc., Casey Jones is responsible for the overall financial strategy of the company. The company’s financial strategy includes long-range financial planning to maximize the value of each employee owner’s share value, maintenance of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for financial reporting, and transparency to ensure the continued integrity of Petersen Inc.’s financial capabilities. Mr. Jones brings years of experience in managing financial activities to the Petersen Inc. team. As a licensed CPA in the state of Utah, Mr. Jones has a strong accounting background and skills related to cost management for government contracts and cash flow management. He began his career with a top tier fuel supplier and continued to gain experience in corporate cash management for a decade before becoming a CFO of a Utah steel corporation. Mr. Jones holds a B.A. in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration from Weber State University.

 

Rob Despain

Vice President of Business Development

Mr. Despain has over three decades of sales and marketing experience in the fabrication and machining industry. He holds an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Sales and Retailing from Weber State University, and a B.S. Degree in Sales, Retailing and Communications, also from Weber State University. He is a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and Ogden Chamber of Commerce, the Colorado & Nevada Mining Association, the Utah Golf Association Scholarship Selection Committee, and was the 2003 President of the Utah Steel Fabricators Association. Mr. Despain joined Petersen Inc. in 1983 where he has since been responsible for the company’s sales, marketing and estimating efforts.

Frank Shaw

Vice President of Program Office

Mr. Shaw, Vice President of Program Office, has been a valued team member at Petersen Inc. since 1988.   His leadership and management skills over the last 25 plus years makes him a valuable asset to all areas of the company. A direct liaison between the Petersen program management team (Project Managers, Purchasing, Process Engineers and Estimators) and the CEO, Mr. Shaw understands the needs of all sides of the business and has experience in both the estimating and purchasing sides of Petersen Inc. Originally from the Ogden area, Frank attended Utah State University where he received both his Bachelor’s degree and his Master’s degree and is a “True Aggie” basketball fan – having played on the USU Men’s Basketball Varsity Team.

Dean Vernon

Vice President of Operations

Mr. Vernon has over 3 decades of experience in engineering and management of fabrication and machining. Dean originally joined Petersen Inc. in 1986 and returned in 2016. During his 12 years at Petersen Inc. he has progressed from Estimator to Vice President of Manufacturing Operations. His responsibilities include scheduling, forecasting, production and engineering management, manpower and capacity planning. Dean has an extensive background in the pipe and pressure vessel fabrication industry. He attended Snow College and Weber State where he studied Drafting and Engineering.

 

Tom Burkland

Chief Engineer

Mr. Burkland joined the Petersen Inc. team full-time in 1999 after having been a consultant to Petersen Inc. since 1993. With a background in engineering spanning two decades, Mr. Burkland brought a wealth of knowledge to his current position of Chief Engineer. Mr. Burkland’s experience has included Lead Engineer of the Fleet Structural Integrity Program on the F-16’s for the Air Force, and was soon promoted to Chief Engineer of the F-16 Program. He has also been involved in Aircraft Weapon Systems Development. Mr. Burkland is currently responsible for and oversees all technical consulting for in-house engineering staff and projects, as well as customer projects. Mr. Burkland received his education in Montana, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University. He is actively involved in auto racing, where he has broken the land-speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats with his self-engineered and built car and holds the current land-speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats with a speed of 417 mph, set in September of 2004.

Kirk Douglass

Director of Quality

Mr. Douglass has over three decades of steel fabrication experience in project engineering, weld engineering, quality engineering and contract management. He joined Petersen Inc. in 1986 as Quality Support Manager, where he oversees all quality and engineering functions for nuclear, aerospace and commercial jobs. This includes preparation, implementation and maintenance of ASME, ISO, AS9100 and NADCAP quality systems; preparation, qualification and maintenance of welding procedure specifications; welder and operator qualifications; setup and maintenance of computerized calibration systems and inspection instruments; need assessments for the procurement of inspection equipment; employee training; and writing of process procedures including heat treatment.

Jake Brian

Warehousing & Distribution Manager

Mr. Brian graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor’s in Business Logistics and Operations Management, then continued his education at Utah State University with a Master’s of Business Administration. His nine years spent at Standlee Premium Western Foreage taught him a variety of skills that range from inventory and project management, procurement responsibilities and sales duties that have given Jake a well-balanced approach to his tasks. With 15 years of professional experience managing projects and budgets, supervising operations and coordinating logistics, Jake is highly skilled at quickly building relationships with suppliers and working with customers to solve problems.

Dave Dixon

Director of HR/Ethics Officer, PHR, CCEP

Mr. Dixon has been a team member of Petersen Inc. since 1983. Mr. Dixon oversees all Human Resource efforts of Petersen Inc. including recruiting, hiring, general employee issues, legal and policy compliance, training and discipline. Mr. Dixon also oversees the company Ethics and Compliance, and the Environmental Health and Safety departments. Mr. Dixon is instrumental in keeping management informed of issues relating to employees and employee safety, and relays management objectives and incentives to employees. Mr. Dixon worked in the Petersen Inc. facilities as a machine operator and welder for many years, and is familiar with all aspects of the company. This has allowed Mr. Dixon to be in very good rapport with the employees throughout the company. Mr. Dixon received his Bachelor’s degree from Weber State University, and his Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. He speaks Japanese and is active in the community in many areas including member of Northern Utah Manufacturers Alliance and the 2008-2009 President of Northern Utah Human Resource Association.

John Rasband

EH&S Engineer, CSP

Mr. Rasband, Environmental Health and Safety Engineer, joined Petersen Inc. in 2003. With more than a decade of environmental health and safety experience, he is instrumental in improving safety and empowering employees to make a safer work environment at Petersen Inc., Mr. Rasband holds the CSP designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and is a member of the local chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He serves on the Local Emergency Planning Committee. He teaches many safety and first aide courses. At Petersen Inc. Mr. Rasband controls administration of compliance with safety policies and procedures; oversees all safety training of new hires and existing employees; administers security programs and ensures the safety of our employees and projects. Mr. Rasband is also fluent in the Korean language.

Rob Smith

Purchasing Manager, CPP

Mr. Smith joined Petersen Inc in 2014, bringing with him over 20 years’ experience in the Supply Chain and Purchasing fields. Rob has direct experience procuring materials to support high volume, job shop, and capital equipment requirements. Along with his experience gained at Petersen Inc, he has worked in the High-Tech, Mining, and Automotive industries. He is a Certified Purchasing Profession (CPP) and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics Management from Weber State College.

Scott Sugimoto

Estimating Manager

Mr. Sugimoto has over 20 years of fabrication experience-such as fitter/welder, machinist, process planner, and estimator. He has manufactured and estimated projects for all industries including mining, aerospace, nuclear, and entertainment. This vast experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes make him an integral member of the management team. His responsibilities include managing all operations and personnel in the Estimating department including analyzing incoming RFQ’s, specifications, drawings and other documentation to make assignments and distribute the workload within the Estimating department.
