Customer:  Bechtel National, RPP Waste Treatment Plant

Project Title:   Cask Export Shielding Hatch (102 x 132″ x 10″ Carbon Steel, 20 Tons)

Description:  Hatches serve as movable covers for transfer ports that allow cylindrical canisters and drums to travel between floors within the high level waste (HLW) facility.  Normally, the hatches will sit in the closed position to provide radiological shielding and/or to regulate cascading airflow.  The hatches and the facility ventilation system will work in tandem to maintain deliberate pressure differentials that insure air always flows from areas of lower contamination into areas of higher contamination.  When a container is required to travel between floors, the appropriate hatch will be opened to allow a crane or hoist to raise or lower the canister or drum through the transfer port.  Once the transfer is complete, and the hoist has been withdrawn, the hatch will be closed.  This is one of 13 shielding hatch and drive configurations designed, built and qualified for nuclear facility use (structural/seismic/electrical & instrumentation/drive/canister impact/factory acceptance/commercial grade dedication) at Petersen Inc.

 


 

Customer:  Fluor Hanford, K-Basin, Hanford Nuclear Site

Project Title:  K-Basin Fuel Transfer System

K-Basin Fuel Transfer System installed in the customized mock-up containing all critical facility interfaces.

Description:  Spent nuclear fuel located in under-water storage basins at K-East and K-West required salvage and relocation prior to processing and permanent storage and decommissioning of the K basins.  Required equipment was designed, built, tested and installed on site by Petersen Inc. within a 6 month time window (November 2001 award through April 2002 completion, including an extensive requirements generation process with the customer and DOE end users).  A K-Basin facility mock-up including 25’ deep water filed pits, ceilings, access, concrete floor elevation changes was constructed in the Petersen Inc. shop environment.  All equipment was installed in the mock-up, fit-checked and qualified for use in the K-basins.  The equipment was shipped to Hanford and installed in a 2 week time window.

Customer:  Roll Press Pack International (Division of Petersen Inc.)

Project Title:  5 Ton Municipal Waste Baler (125’ x 24’ x 16’)

Description:  Municipal waste baler capable of producing 5 ton bales, Ø2m x 2m in size.  Power demand = 720 kVA.  Converts random municipal waste into compressed plastic wrapped cylinders for transportation, storage or disposal.  Design, fabrication, assembly and testing performed entirely at Petersen Inc.

Project Title:  Ammonium Perchlorate Crystallization Jacketed Pressure Vessels

Description:  316L stainless steel, ASME Section VIII, Div 1 pressure vessel.  External cooling jacket, with 2 nested internal cooling coils.  This project was designed, built (structural/seismic/ASME/thermal stress relief/sensitive explosive materials processing) at Petersen Inc.

Description: The high level waste (HLW) Melter Cave 1 and 2 Decontamination Pit Shielded Lids primary functions are to provide shielding and contamination control between the crane decontamination areas and the equipment decontaminations pits.  Normally, these lids remain in the closed position to provide radiological shielding and to regulate airflow into the decontamination pits.  The lids hydraulically opened and closed.  This project was designed, built and qualified for nuclear facility use (structural/seismic/electrical & instrumentation/hydraulics/canister impact/factory acceptance tested/commercial grade dedication/environmental qualification) at Petersen Inc.
